OUR STORY:

Osteria La Civetta is a celebration of Italian food, wine and hospitality, combined with fresh and local ingredients.
The inspiration for La Civetta (The Little Owl) comes from our own life experiences at the tables of family, friends and Osterie of Emilia Romagna.
With its Capital, Bologna, the Region is the birthplace of some of the most celebrated ingredients of Italian cuisine worldwide, such as Prosciutto, Mortadella, Aceto Balsamico and Parmigiano Reggiano.

Every dish we prepare is rooted in or inspired by the culinary heritage of Emilia, its ingredients and its spirit. We serve the food of our Mothers and Grandmothers, of the Fishermen and Farmers of one of Italy's most prosperous and diverse regions.

“Osteria” is a place where the owner “hosts” guests. At La Civetta you're welcomed in a friendly and unique setting, surrounded by original components from dismantled farmhouses and flea-markets that we shipped from Italy to recreate the atmosphere in which we learnt to love our food.
Our 80-seat restaurant is located on Main Street in Falmouth, across the street from the Eastman’s Hardware. Since our opening, in 2007, we have expanded to include a second dining room, where we can host private events, a heated and covered patio, and a small bar area where you can enjoy one of our signature cocktails or choose to have a full meal. We offer lunch on Fridays and Saturdays, and dinner on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays.

Our cuisine is the expression of our chef Federico Mainardi’s lifetime experiences in the kitchen. It is simple, honest and unpretentious. While based on our heritage, the menu incorporates fresh and locally sourced Produce, Meat and Seafood.

We do things the old way; the only way we know. We make all our Pasta by hand daily, using Imported 00 Flour and Organic Free Range Eggs. We grow and dry many of our own herbs. Our Ragu' Bolognese simmers all day over low flame.

Whether you come in for a glass of Sangiovese or settle in for a full meal, we want La Civetta to be your place: where you're happy, comfortable and relaxed.
Osteria la Civetta is the interpretation of our belief that one of the greatest sources of joy is what happens around a dinner table.

our chef

Our head chef Federico Mainardi grew up working at his parent’s restaurant in Northern Italy, where his passion for cooking began. He went on to study at a Culinary Institute in Ferrara, and soon after began to work and travel all over the world. From Spain to China, Dubai, The Maldives, and more; Federico or Fede, as we call him, loves sharing his food with as many people as possible. During his time in China he won an episode of Master Chef China and that was just the beginning. His approach to classic Italian cuisine with a modern flair, pays homage to simple traditions while incorporating fresh takes and local ingredients. Fede is always bringing new and exciting recipes to our menu, which changes seasonally.
